Carol Cameron - bio
My work is deeply connected to healing from childhood trauma. In fact almost all of my work has dealt with this theme until the Council of 9. Art has been a transforming process for me as I gave form to images that reflected back to me splintered lost parts of myself and I found ways to honor and integrate them.
My BFA was from College for Creative Studies in Detroit, MI with a Fabric Design major. I taught art to children of all ages and adults with disabilities for many years. Through all of these teaching experiences I experimented with different kinds of media and mixed them together to keep things fresh and interesting. This influences my work today as I feel I can draw from these various resources and materials to get a feeling I am going for.
The Council of 9 has been a labor of love that I started when I stopped teaching. Each work intensive piece took many months to complete and was no longer about myself but had universal themes. It was also the first time that I did sculpture. I had lots of dreams and synchronicities surrounding each sculpture that made me feel that I was on the right track. Upon completion I turned my studio into an exhibit space and show the work by appointment. I have documented some of the visitors on my Instagram account - council.of.9. It is time to reach a wider audience with it's message of hope for our species.
